loft manager watched them into the distance, said they were all in one bunch and heading home.........where did 300 go ?

Nothing makes any sense to me.

Why was the manager at the liberation and not seeing the birds back ?.

Who was in the loft when the birds started arriving.

What were the two pigeons walking up and down in the trapping area doing there, saw someone interfereing with the trapping entrances at one time.

No excuse for so many pigeons missing.

Would expect better returns from untrained pigeons from that distance.

Ordinary healthy pigeons could be expected to return from this distance, almost a training toss for some.

Could there have been health problems etc; and treatmenys not conjusive to good performance.

No dount things are not normal.

Pigeons get used to most things. Resilient. Weasel would have killed many. Cat one or two. Rats not too many. Mink also.But if it is happening on a regular basis crtter getting in and cannot catch any then explains the alertness of the birds on return. If they think it is worth the return.
Large live trap outside here. Put in a dead barn pigeon hawk had killed. 3 days ago. Noe it has gone and trap not sprung. Will tie in the next bait. So the critter has to pull harder and spring the trap. Possum I beleive is the critter. Delicate little killers.

531 birds back now, still quite a few missing .........
