Never deworm birds wich are in the molt. Be sure, you get rid of external parasites. High protein feed with a high oil content. Avoid medication during this time. The list go on and on , this is what i consider the most important.

hi kev, have you never had problems with your ybs exercising round home when they are moulting..................when mine wouldnt fly i automatically presumed they were sore because they were moulting, is this the case or was it something else...

the only reason mine fly well david is because i don,t race them and they get only a few chucks just to find out what the basket is , the moment they start racing i think the harder it is to make them fly but if there fed a lighter mix they tend to fly better . |

hi mate, yes your right that,s what forums are for differant opinions but i must disagree when you say they don,t get sore i think they do when they cast there primarys it,s one of the most stresfull things a pigeon will go through in it,s live yes your right when you say nature will takes it,s course but will can help them by not putting to much stress on the birds and giving them a helping hand by giving them suplements and oil and multivits and plenty of baths and not stressing them out because thats the the bigest thing they will face is stress at the end of the day they are still babys and still growing . i think your right there might be a underlying problem with davids birds the only way is to get them tested to be sure , if we can come on here and discuss things and pass on tips and advise then every one a winner . all the best cheers kev .

i personnally would think ybs do get sore when moulting, im not experienced like most of you but i would definately think that when heavy in the moult it would have some degree of soreness/stress on them................... i think the problem with mine is that the older birds are all paired up and on pot eggs, thats why they dont want to fly.......i tested this by letting the younger birds who are not paired up out seperately and they flew for fun, then when i let the older birds out they dragged them down and they all landed.

funny you should mention linseed, i was reading in an old pictorial about it today.....the writer said linseed is very good for pigeons and since he has used it the condition and feathering of his birds is excellent.......also he said that linseed given every day helps them exercise well around the loft. cant remember exactly what was wrote but will have another look and elaborate more on his views re linseed..........

i think the birds do get reluctant to fly when the 4 end flights are being pushed out.when you think of it the birds has to use air to push it forward and if the flight is being pushed out from the stem and getting closer to the end of the wing then flapping is going to irrirate like having a tooth thats ready to break free.i dont think when the birds are in this state that its a good idea to race them or toss them and force them to fly.only my opinion.
