| the biggest team of ybs i ever had was 30 and always flew the yb programme with at least 50% left after it ,my usual amount was 24 as i had 30 perches and would always like some spare i dont subscribe to the fact "fight for yer perch" there will already be "prime" perches to fight for ...the lofts with annual illness would/were always the bigger teams carrying 60/80 ybs ,breed less and be selective would be my advice to anyone atb |

| Think the more you keep Mike the harder it is to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Would never keep anything but racers, fancy pigeons OK but useless at racing and eat as much corn and need as much attention as the racers.
With a large number you get one offs, they win a race and never heard of again.
You want consistantancy and the only way ( in my humble opinion ) is to have a reasonable team of well bred pigeons and cull to performance and eventually (and with a few prayers) you will have a reasonable amount of decent performers.
Quality Mike not quantity.
Regards. |

| Always liked a challenge Knaclered, but pass on that one.
Appears an entirely different kettle of fish.
Cannot realy see how you can compare performances, like I said yeas ago, you cannot compare a pigeon flying 200 miles less than others etc;.
Terrain can be different and the same for weather conditions etc;
But if you want to compete you have to go with the tide, high or low.

Regards. I think, maybe we just get comfortable in a local sense in our own little bubble scenario at times, just doing what we do Misty in a pigeon sense. Forget it can be a completely different type world for many, out there in pigeon land etc England, Australia, South Carolina, Canada all different as you say as such. |

| every year i think i will have a go colin, but theres always some reason not to ......this years reason is not enough room to house a team of young birds, been toying with the idea of building upwards, or alternatively adding an L shape into the end of the loft.......but with the price of wood at the moment it could work out expensive, plus even though it is our own house, the council could, and probably would tell me to take it down due to height restrictions. a club member locally does have a double story loft, but he applied for planning permission 30 years ago . this coming season our club will be 50 years old .... |

| Would think you would be hard pressed to breed to sell and race.
Just as much fun knowing others win with your birds.
If you breed to sell every race brings the chance of bringing unwanted health problems into the loft.
Massarella USED to race.
As an aside David, have you fully recovered from the virus? sincerely hope so.

| yes good point misty, doing both would be too much i think....... re the virus, yes i feel ok, but i do have after effects from it........my eyes water a lot. and when im out side it feels like my nose is running, but it isnt ....... this is very likely after effects, but its nothing that bothers me. my wife has has stomach problems since covid, but weve read this is a symptum/after effects......she has to be careful sometimes what she eats as she gets bad pain, but like i say its something she can live with as it comes and goes . personally i think what i have always thought........its man made, they have tweaked the flu, and since weve had covid i am more convinced than ever, as my symptums and my wifes are as though we have been poisoned .....her hair was coming out the other week, just like it did when she first started on warfarin years ago .....its growing back now but its as though she has been poisoned . thanks for asking misty .........much appreciated . |

| Glad you are both OK David.
Think much we are kept in the dark about, maybe as well or maybe we would not sleep on a night.
Would not take too much on would take the pleasure out of all.
