| Pure Class
Love judging the show birds completely different to the race birds but its a good experience to judge them pure silk in the hand
Still regret the time i was asked by my great friend Barry Clout off Oldbury, here in the midlands who was a good racing man, but could show a pigeon in both the race and showing classes
Barry was asked to judge at Blackpool and Barry asked me to be his steward but due to my work commitments I had to decline and I missed my chance
Unlike me with Brian Kaid at The Old Comrades Show which is shown on you tube which Keith Mott did think its Video 64

| Read the work the Bell family put into the Show side of the sport and dedication does not cover it .
Have had plenty of contact with the Show people, but refused to judge Show birds, but judged plenty of racing pigeon shows.
Entirely different kettle of fish.
Would never be able to put all the work in necessary to be a success with Show Birds.
But won numerous shows just picking a bird from the loft and just cleaning the feet etc;
However, even judges have their own likes and dislikes and if same as me and two birds were equal I picked the one I would take home.
Those like the Bells deserve all the rewards they get for the hard work they put in.
Regards. |

| At one time our club of which I was Chairman at the time, held fortnightly shows throughout the winter, 200 pens, 4 classes, always full., cakes and drinks available.
Judges came from outside the area, Bill Carney judged the eye sign for us once.
One day the judges could not get through so I decided to judge two classes and withdrew my entries in those classes, one was young cocks handled.
I chose a dark cock a little beauty and handled like a dream and second a mealy also a good un.
The late Pat Cass owned the mealy and made some rematks about judges
So I said we would hold the same shows in a fortnight, same birds with the original judges doing the judging.
Guess What?
The little dark cock won and the mealy was second.
Must admit Pat did say "there maybe something in this judging lark.
Had Bill Carney have a look at look at my pigeons, he condemned one hen I had bought recently because it had won a big race, Bill said he did not believe it, after I bought the pigeon it was rumoured there had been a fiddle, so I culled it then and there.
My friend Bill Halifax was with me at the time and Bill Carney said mine were the best small team of pigeons he had handled.
Do not think he appreciated my style of husbandry but results speak louder than words.
Regards.

. Shows were never a big thing down here in winter etc Misty I'm maybe, because we simply raced in that period for the last 100 odd years or so here for the simple enjoyment factor . |

| Often thought and written Knackerd that I think we could change our period of racing, often better racing weather in the Winter months and pigeons in the best feather condition.
