| what do members think is the best way to settle ybs. i always like to get them out as soon as possible after they are weaned, before they can fly really ........i was talking to a fancier the other day who says he lets them out when they are older,
but to me thats not a good idea as they risk flying off and getting lost, whats your thoughts ...? |

| Before they can fly up from the floor for me. I put them outside the doors but leave doors open, as long as I'm around doing stuff in garden to keep an eye on them and a couple of old hens out with them too. This way they get used to wild birds and stuff going on around them. I've lost older young birds in the past first time out fly off at first time they see a magpie or jackdaw swoop down on the garden or bit paper or something flapping about. Day after they come off parents for me, 5 or 6 times a day if I had the time. |

| Over the years heard different ideas, from letting them out on leaving the parents to when their eyes have changed color.
Choose what method you use you will be lucky not to lose the odd pigeon, because the wonder lust is inbred into the young of some of all animals.
I had complete open loft and the young went out when nature told then to and still lost the odd one or two.
Think a lot depends on the fanciers circumstances, time wise etc.
Regards.
