If the photo is taken as all the other eyes you have shown then the eye has no merit in my opinion.

The eye cere gives a good idea of a pigeons health, the whiter, the better, the pupil is large, the smaller the better, and there is no gleam to the eye nor any eye sign of consequence.

But then I know nowt,

Regards.

personally i dont think looking at eyes, wings or tails means anything.......i cant see any logic in it ........the only thing i think we need to do is test it racing or breeding, then we will know if the bird is any good or not .

AGREE WITH THAT ENTIRELY.

george when i bought these van reets they were that years young birds, 12 cocks 12 hens, and i just put them in a section and left them to it , they chose their own mates .......then each year when i put them back together most stay with the original partner, the odd few change partners, but i have never paired them to what pairs i want .

if i was racing i would pair best to best or winner to winner regardless of how they handled .or what the wing or eye looked like .

with me not racing i think that method is all i can do really .

there are a few things i'm not happy with some of the birds i have, a reason i am going to pair racers to-gather or at least one has raced in the pair there are 2 points i look tor and they are in the wing under the wing i like the gap to be very narrow were the wing joins the body the other the knuckle on the top of the wing has to be flat if i wanted sprinters then it would be the opposite to this there are other points i look for but these are the main two my dad would fan the tail never see anyone do that now don't think they would know how he never said why

Not much Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes for what I remember George Smile Smile more interested etc bounce bounce in the general width of the tail & if it lent to the left or right type of thing in design or went up or down. End of the day thou here Smile Smile bred half fantails to fly 400 odd miles bounce bounce so suggest maybe Wink Wink tail theories are entitled to go in the bin scenario, along with most theories subject to discussion in a pigeon type sense. cheers

I think most fanciers have their own fads regarding what is required in a good pigeon.

For me, after a few years I knew within a couple of minutes if I liked or otherwise a pigeon.

Always liked a tail that was one feathered width when stood.

As I liked showing the racers I also liked a good handler, balanced, straight keel,
bright eyed (TWO) wings with good primaries and secondries, warm feet etc.

However, pigeons have won many races that do not conform to my liking, but I was content with the result I obtained at both racing and showing.

Regards.

yes me too misty, always preferred a pigeon with a single tail feather when looking down at the tail, never liked the fantail types ....

All you have to do is look at all the pigeons that have put up the best performances and you will find they vary in most respects, there is no perfect model.

If you have a actual close knit family then certain qualities show up in certain pigeons, have a mongrel flock and it is more of a gamble.

Think, thinking too much spoils the enjoyment.

I have mostly had medium well bodied, well balanced pigeons, think you could get the same in long cast ones, winners come in all shapes and sizes.

Think performance dictates what is what.

One of the most expensive ever pigeons was a little hen that was not what I and many others woud think an ideal build.
