Being your auction season there etc David Smile Smile apparently, I've wasted my time here recently type thing
looking at the goods on offer there in general on many different sites. Found it rather fascinating to a certain degree, somewhat Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Pedigrees a mile long, if not two Very Happy Very Happy & most on average air brushed to the highest order as such I suspect. But was sadly battling to find anywhere a pigeon that had actually flown maybe any distance of respect, except for the one loft race type pigeons, which still lack a certain respect factor I'm affraid from my perspective down here. cheers

Think you will find the champions have been bred from every possible pairings, from off champions to ones from a barn and townies.

My feelings on the matter is that if you adopt a system and keep to it, it will throw up good bad and indifferent pigeons.

But it helps me thinks if the parents have winners going back consistently over a long period.

Do not think keep pairing on just flying a few races in dubious circumstances a good idea.

Regards.

In certain ways Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes from my perspective here Smile Smile that's where most of the typical O/L/type races fall in a heap I'm affraid in a somewhat major way. 50  Smile  Smile one mile type tosses Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad mainly with a tail wind & perhaps maybe 3/4 races (mainly with a tail wind) up to 300 miles at a stretch, if your lucky. Give me a race program any day, perhaps of 20 races over 20 odd weeks type thing, up to 5/600 odd miles Very Happy Very Happy for young birds  Wink  Wink & I'm quite sure one would finish up with a better standard type bird on the whole in the end for stock purposes, on average. cheers

Funny thing that David, before my late friend Steve Spinks passed to the loft in the shy far too early we had discussed doing just that.

Know of one fancier who bred winners from a hen from a barn, but although not rung it was obviously had a background of racers in it's blood.

We mentioned it in the BHW a couple of times.

See no reason why they should not breed winners although settling their young may pose a problem, and possibly getting them to breed in captivity.

Be very interesting if someone had a go.

Regards.

i remember as a teenager misty, went on a family holiday to Bournemouth and went to Poole park where there were loads of strays living with ferals, i managed to catch a lovely blue cock with a ring on it, kept it in a box for nearly 2 weeks and took it home with me ....... i tried everything to pair it up to numerous hens without success and even tried settling , no chance it was off first chance it got, probably back to poole park ........ study

The auction appears to be doing very well, decent bids on many taking the present circumstances into consideration.

Must admit David I have eaten pigeons but just roasted ones.

Would be interesting to know how many fanciers have done so.

Long long, long, time ago.

But in the general run of things fanciers not selling their rubbish but cull could do better than putting them in the bin, me thinks.

Regards.
