Watchfield In The Vale Flying Club with MB
*Remember there are No Secrets from a Bottle, just Hardwork, Dedication & Determination*
Well folks here we are again, this week (17th July) is the start of the young bird season and will see the Wiltshire federation at Seaton (85mile)
We have stopped training now, which may seem a little unfair on the birds but i just cannot face taking them away each time just to see them smahed up by the increasing hawk problem, which results in our team now being diminished now to 15yb which are raceable and another 5 which if lucky i may get them into racing in 4 weeks or so.
On Sunday we had the birds out for exercise am & pm and all had a bath, out again on Monday. Basketing well well at the club with members who sent in anticipation of a good race.
Race day now and i was up and about early as normal, but news of liberation was quiet to which i just presumed that the convoyers were holding due to possibilities of other organisations crossing our path or waiting for it to brighten a bit more. At approx 1020hrs i decided to go put the phone on charge as i had left the charger in the garage whilst working in there earlier in the week, so went outside only to see birds flying round the loft..........well a few choice words and a shout to Clare to ring our mate Clive to let him know the birds were home but we had missed the call no doubt or the text had not come through yet, argh!!!
Well after what seemed an eternity we managed to get a young blue cock down and in, only to remember that i was using a T3 this week due to still having the ETS set up in the old bird loft and yes you know it the clock was still in the car, argh!!! The car is still locked “oh my god” you can imagine it cant you, well back to the loft clock in hand, arghh!! No thimbles............... oh well not to worry. Once we had clocked and calmed down with cuppa in hand, we assessed the situation and the returns were dire, finally resulting in a loss of 6 youngsters and those what did return after the first three took hours and hours to get home, had they smashed or was it simply lack of training and my fault.
At the club that night, it was noteable that returns were a bit scatty for all, onto the result and it was a fantastic result for our club chairman Lou Hamlin who has been unwell recently & Sam......whoose Red hen was certainly looking for home and was a very worthy winner of this opening young bird race and finished 1st club by 70ypm WELL DONE LOU & SAM, not only winning but finishing 3rd & 4th for good measure.
Wiltshire & District SR Federation – 03.07.10 from Exeter, and what a fantastic result for ourselves which certainly put the icing on a dream season for ourselves M/M M& C Brown taking the first seven places in the federation. 1st with a yearling blue cock on 1610.4, 2nd with a yearling cheq hen on 1610.3, 3rd with a yearling blue hen on 1610.0, 4th with a 2 yr old blue hen on 1609.5,5th with a yearling cheq cock on 1607.9, 6th with a yearling blue cock on 1595.3 and 7th with a yearling blue cock on 1592.1, 8th was S Bunn, Ram Alley with a 2yr old cheq cock on 1581.4, 9th was M/M C Aldridge & Son, Watchfield with a 3yr old mealy cock on 1573.8 and 10th was C Bartlett, Salisbury with a 4yr old mealy cock on 1569.7
Well that’s it for this week, try hard, work harder, be happy and good returns.
