pigeon club .............

just came on and thought where is everyone then i realised its saturday all you lucky guys with ybs to race will be at the club

i havent raced this year mark, i was supposed to start with ybs but didnt manage it....hopefully it will be the yb season next year when i finally begin racing again.

Hi David, u should do well with ur young birds next year, out of the 9 u sent me 7 are still here, they flew very well, 2 have now been put to stock, so as you can see i am more than pleased with them

hope so ian, is yb racing a good guide to what a pigeon is capable of as an adult ? ive read some fanciers dont place a lot of importance on yb racing......?

dont think so but what do you do you cant keep all of them however i tend to try all the young cocks as yearlings then i make my mind up

personally i would try all the ybs that made it through the yb season.....they might fly better when they have something to motivate them, like widowhood/hen......rather than just flying to the perch.?

yes ian, i would do the same......i dont think yb racing can be used to fully asses if a bird is good, flying as a yearling/adult will tell us more i think.....

some birds dont even show there full potential until 2 year olds

yes, i would bet you are right.....have heard of some good performances from birds a few years old....

thats why its hard to sort out sometimes

suppose its just one of those things ian, it has to be done......being very selective in the ones to be kept will no doubt make the team stronger and hopefully produce the best from them....

David keep a record of all ur birds races sent wind conditions etc what time and what position bird arrived back at loft, then you can go through them end of season, this helps in ur selction, as durring the course of the season you forget things so always best to record everything, also helps with stock birds if you breed youngsters off them and keep losing them then u remove the parents from the stock shed

hi ken, yes thats good advise.....many a time i have put off making notes about certain birds (nothing too important) and then ive forgot about it or forgot dates etc, i suppose thats one of the resons i had 4 latebreds hatch about 6-7 weeks ago....lol. when i race i would emagine it will need to be up to date with my records as like you say if a bird is doing well or not well things can easily be forgotten.

David u bred me two pigeons this year these are two nest mates which you thought were not good enough, 82 and 83 both blues well both these pigeons were in the clock every week 82 just that little bit faster lol now if records had not been kept i may have missed these and kept two pigeons which were further down the list, because they looked better

i make notes of everthing usually ian, but there is sometimes where i forget and then dont remember.....as i said before, nothing serious but sometimes its the little things that matter isnt it ?
