My friend had one come back 2 weeks late healing from a wound in his back. It was obvious he was in the wild for 2 weeks but he did come home.

I had a bird last season come back, when it went into the loft it couldnt fly on a perch, I still cant work out how it got home, it was covered in cows muck and was hardly recognisable as a pigeon, when I washed it off I saw all of its flesh around the keel was missing and the bone was bare, it had been eaten alive by probably a sparowhawk, in 2 minds wheather to kill it, I put it in a nest box as it was an amazing bird and must have thought it had to get home or eles it was done for, anyway it heale and was ok..

For me when a pigeon makes it home like that the pigeon has shown what it's made of and the kind of charactor it is well worth keeping

i must admit its horrible, but would you really keep this bird unless it had done something prevouisly.i do,nt think i would to be honest.i know you will give me stick for saying this but thats just the way i feel sorry..it will never make a good racer after that attack and i have enough pets as it is in my loft to keep another one

Yes I kinda agree with peelbos, you do need to keep real with pigeons, they are for racing and this bird might not be up to it after, but I would personally give it a chance racing but wouldnt keep it just for coming home like that, the bird I mentioned I had come back injured got lost off the loft the following year, so could be a case of final destination..lol

| in some ways i agree with you both but lets not forget one thing this bird never asked to be sent racing did it with so many hawks around each time we send our birds they are a target waiting to be hit i know your going to say well this to can happen around the loft and it can and dose if that bird had won many prizes im prety sure 99.9% would put it in the stock loft now hence its earned its perch but we are all our own loft manegers so we make the choice

yes i agree but we put them birds there to race do,nt we...we only breed them to race for us ,we have to accept these things do happen on route from a race as well as at home.all i was saying you have to be hard sometimes like we do at the end of the season when we have mass sort out ...we dispose of birds that have tried their hearts out right up till the last race but we still get rid of those if they are just not good enough...sometimes to have to be hard as you know..i know it s crap ,i hate it but we have to do it
