Decided to nip up to Holland and Barrett, for a quick look. Found some Manuka Honey, not as higher rating as I usually get, but at buy one and get another for a penny, I couldn't resist. Result. On returning to the loft, disaster. A hen that we, set aside for a special inbreed pairing. To one of founder veteran stock cocks. was lying on the floor dead. Devastated. This was the only hen that we had bred from this cock, that we felt was good enough for such a pairing. This hen was outstanding, she was that special. She went to stock as a squeeker. The cock who is a 96 pigeon, I think this may be his last year. This cock has bred over 30 winners, but has never bred an hen that was so outstanding or worthy enough for such a paring. But never mind, that's pigeon racing for you. Still in a state of shock, we decided to cheer ourselves up and select a team of latebreds to race next year. None of these had even been out of the loft. We selected a team of 14 birds. We stuck them in one section and remove the cage from the front of loft. It's always an anxious moment, when you let youngsters out for the first time. But latebreds can sometimes be a little unpredictable. But as we say, 'Owt with brains, know where they live. We must have chose the intelligent ones. We still have 13 out of 14.

Cheers mate. Gutted about the hen. I could have cried. The bird that went AWOL, we made the fatal mistake. We stood admiring it, commenting on how nice it was out of the loft.

The fatal Jinx. I once had a chequer pied cock, he scored quite a few times as a yb, scored a few times inland and over the water as a yearling and some bloke from the club, was going on how, he would have it in the stock loft if it was his bird. I sent it to Cheltenham to a comeback race and yep you've guessed it. I never saw it again.

It was an 09 and unbred, as we didn't breed any last year, Except for a few late breds. Off the racers. Because of the allotment move, non of the stock were bred from. The hen was produced from our best stock, it was a grandfather to granddaughter pairing. She was the image of her of her father in every way, as he was in his younger days. It's took years to produce this type of hen. We have others same way bred, but none were of this calibre. But that's what makes this sport so interesting
