| hi steve, i feed the ybs in shallow wooden trays, i feed widowhood cocks in their boxes with food and water..........as i think it bonds them more to the box rather than feeding on the floor in trays. JMO |

| Same as David always feed youngsters on the floor with open trays and the widowhood birds in there boxes
Must say when feeding widowhood cocks always let the fight a little with me to help get a bond with the bird and the bird with its home as you would say protecting his teretory |

sorry but i dont agree, the widowhood system isnt about competing for food, its about sexually motivating cocks...........my way of thinking is that the cock thinks the hen is under the upturned bowl and his desire to defend his box which is hes territory, he races home to his hen, not to food........JMO |

| i used to shut my boxes off with a bit of ply and that had a v perch on all week they would sit on the perch till friday then ide remove the ply and they would then see the box with the front still closed at around 5pm ide put in the bowl all they could do was see the bowl no access to it at all then off to the club only time they ever seen the hens was on return and on all training tossers 1 week befor first race they just loft fly all birds were fed by hand on a tray they aint daft they know whats comming but we all have our own ways and you must do as you feel best and do it as time allows you to |
