yes ian some are, the oldest cock tho looks like a yearling and he hasnt been on dark.....lovely body feathers and dark green neck, he looks spot on.........

This is the thing with young birds once they have a little age in them and the days get longer they start to mature quicker and this is were they will start to mess about unless you have the room to put the cocks and hens in different sections

flew a bit better today, all seem to be moulting well at the moment and the oldest cock is nearly done.....hes made a lovely pigeon, his neck is like a shiny piece of green silk. would liked to have raced him as a yb but hopefully he might go into open race or something next year.

are these birds latebreds david just my old birds and stock pigeons are just starting the moult no where near finished

no ian, they are 09 ybs.......my yearlings and stock birds have been moulting for a while now but that might be because they have not raced or are not seperated yet ???? dont know really but i would emagine it will most likely be because yours have raced and mine havnt.

have you parted the birds now as this can help start the moult

no don, not parted them yet.....will be hoping to do in the next few weeks most likely.

You may see a difference as soon as you part them

all birds moult around now or are well into the moults only darky youngbirds are not on heavy moult

the dark ybs will moult again towards the end of the year wont they ian ? or at least finish the moult from where they left off.......

ian, i seperated a latebred about 6 weeks ago and its falling to bits more or less already.....hows that ?

because its natural for them to moult this time of the year regardless wether there seperated just seem to go thro better moult when seperated less stress

But this is were the dark young birds when finished racing will have to be put on a good moulting mix with plenty of small seeds

But if you leave them on the dark to long you will not get them throught the moult

how do you mean leave them on dark too long

i go on dark every year and dont have bother getting them thro moult

they catch up and are thro before xmas
