| Had the youngsters out for the first time this morning. I just don't think that I have got them hungry enough at the moment, even though most trapped like bullets. But one of older ones flew straight off the loft onto the house roof and then onto next doors roof, then flew across to one of the houses over the way. This went on for about half an hour. But then flew back onto the loft and trapped. I think I will cut their rations down more tonight and let them out again tomorrow. But they are looking good and my local predator kept away. |

| That's always the danger mate. That's why I ways like them to be hungry at least it offers some control.

| ybs all looking well gary, its good they can come out and have a look around in the wire cage.....im not letting mine out again, its coming down heavier than earlier and the skies are grey too. if i did let them out all they would do is have a bath in the rain, while i stand getting soaked watching for cats or hawks. |

| That's about right mate. They love the rain. I'm a big fan of cages, as it give the birds a chance to get in the fresh air and bathe in the rain. Not only that the youngsters can familiarise themselves with the surrounding area. Like mine they look right onto a row of 60ft poplar trees, which should be a good marker for them on race days. Another thing with sloping cages it keeps cats off. |

| yes the cages are good for that, i had boxes on my old loft years ago with wire fronts for them to look out of........i over heard a fancier at the club breeder buyer a couple of weeks ago telling someone that since he added an aviery to his yb loft he hasnt lost any ybs off the loft whilst settling them.......... |

| Cheers Darren, these are team one only fifteen birds. I believe it's a good stress reliever as they can just sit in it when they like. |

| graham i saw on dvd that when the fancier sent his ybs training the late comers would get a plastic marker ring on its leg, the next time if it was late it would get a second plastic ring........if it was late a third time it would be disposed of, but if it was a bird which had a marker ring on its leg and it arrived home on time, it would get the ring removed for coming on time......
i thought this wasnt a bad system, as it told you at a glance who was not up to scratch, plus it gave them fair chance. |

| I don't really bother with younguns like that, some just like to have a fly in the shorter distances and they are learning all the time. Once I get to seventy or eighty miles, it's a different matter, but generally as a rule they will come in one batch. Some of the later arrivals in training have gone on to score for me in the past. But I will use a similar system with yearlings if they mess around they go. |
