| Big thanxs to a Mr Graham Foster, of Pinxton.....
In our local Evening Post a Mr Foster as wrote the following article,
BIRDS OF PREY A THREAT TO OUR URBAN SONGBIRD..
Looking at the webcam on the peregrine falcon nest, it was interesting to note the rings of someone's valuable racing pigeons. It seems that the feral pigeons are to streetwise for these aerial killers; these birds are cliff-dwellers but are introduced into cities for people to view. During the wars, racing pigeons saved thousands of lives, sending information back on many occasions and saving air crews and enemy positions.. They are now under attack from a growing raptor population. The songbird is in decline, mostly due to the sparrowhawk. You only have to see attacks at bird tables and urban gardens.................. This is what the joe public need to be reading, and being made aware of.... The Notts Wildlife won't like the article thats for sure.... Once again well done Mr Foster.. |

| not being funny sloram but i have not found 1 single bop enthusiast who is sympathetic towards the destruction that raptors have on our hobby and have read many joyus comments about pigeons being eaten alive by raptor enthusiasts ....the coin flips both ways you know so dont be so righteous and as for the song birds not being scarce .... what window are you looking out ,certainly not my garden window for sure.sorry to say but your writings sound very much like the rest of the raptor exstremists ,it sounds as though you are all singing the same song ,the anorak song |

| remember this comment:
gary, not being funny but your “hobby” is of no importance to any other human beings apart from your peers. It certainly doesn’t warrant raptor control in any way, shape or form.
Bird of prey numbers 20 – 30 years ago were UNNATURALLY low due to the effects of DDT and other pesticides. If it wasn’t for the moaning pigeon fanciers it is likely that we would have lost peregrine falcons completely, so for that I say thanks!
What you and your colleagues seem to be incapable of understanding is that pigeons are animals. An animal that other animals find very tasty, so when they are released to fly around they will inevitably get eaten.
Bringing the garden bird argument into raptor control is ridiculous. The fact that we feed garden birds and put up nestboxes etc means that if anything the prey items are artificially high. A predator population will grow to a point when food supply and nesting habitat is saturated, populations over that point are short lived, and the balance is restored.
Not forgetting of course that the domestic cat has by far the biggest impact on songbird numbers.
Killing or “controlling” BOP will make naff all difference!!
Also, maybe you should be careful about how your hobby continually promotes and calls for ILLEGAL activity.
Anyway, on a personal note I watched my local peregrines destroy 3 pigeons this morning. That is all. |

| It gets me how these people think this is a big joke, finding our birds mutilated and eaten alive. Sadly for us it's not a joking matter, it's the same when pigeon lofts get burnt to the ground and a lifetimes work is destroyed in just a matter of minutes. they don't really see the reality of it all. Like you have said it is of no consequence to you so why are you on here? |

| sloram, members of this forum do not specifically want to kill bops, all they want is for the hawks to be regulated by the proper authorities ie the rspb etc........which will then give our pigeons some sort of protection and enable them to live there life without fear of being eaten alive...........
thats all we ask, do not put words into our mouths. |

| talk about hang yaself lol
birdy2011 - I am aware that your peers raise substantial funds for charity which is to be appluded, in respect of BOP, I believe that the Scottish Tourism Board value BOP at over 10 million pounds to the economy, which is a fair amount. Not that it makes it better, just pointing it out.
yes we give it to the needy not the frigging goverment thats why we give money they dont give a shit but use any means to get funds please please dont make me laugh |
