If you string them they move about and some birds get spooked so I spike 1 either side of each section they will rot in time but u will see a black dot on floor then change them I've just changed mine after 7 month and no moths in boxes or drinkers I've done this for 5 years now and never had flights ate

example you slice, dice, chop an onion whatever way u like it makes your eyes water same as a moth its eyes are tiny compared to a human it wont effect a pigeon as the root hasn't been cut
