| Whilst handling a bird a few years ago I opened up a pigeons wing and a paper thin moth shot off quickly into the birds feathers it happened a couple of times. I went over the birds with a fine tooth comb but i'm buggered if I could find them again, I always used to dip my pigeons in something called pripsin and sprayed my lofts with giromitex, it kept the lice and bugs away but not these moths. I saw a documentary a few months ago and saw a breed of moths in the Amazon that lived on the animals like this, they're really creepy and actually look clever the way they move away when you try to touch them. Has anyone else come across these moths. |

Boosey it's what we call a pigeon fly down here, & they are quite big as you say if it's the same thing etc. Black & flat is how I would best describe them & they slide across the feathers & escape capture. Permethrin spray or any normal fly spray would kill them, thou it's a pain in the a**e if you have to do to many birds etc. Borax, salt, vinegar, bleach or a combination of these should see the end of them in my view if put in the bath water, on a regular basis. ***** |

For what I know/remember they are blood suckers, so do all you can to get rid of them etc. Birds need a good nights sleep (Just like me) so any lice mite or fly has no place in a pigeon loft. ***** |
