| hi tony, if the chick is 4 weeks old it needs weaning from the parents.......30 days is old enough. just check under the wings and if it is fully covered (which it should be at 30 days) then it needs to be taken away from the parents, if you intend keeping your birds togeather in one section then you have no choice but to leave it......but I wouldn't worry, the parents will still sit the eggs. |

| I will double check the chick under its wings later on today, the birds will be in together untill I sort another loft out, if I was to take the chick out and put it on the floor would it be ok would it still get fed ???? Or would it be best to leave it in the nest for now. Tony |

| if you only have the one loft at the moment tony, I would leave the yb where it is....it will come out of the box when its ready, and the parents will still sit the eggs ok.
better leave it rather than other pigeons scalp it on the floor, altho at 30 days it should be able to get up to the perches out of harms way..... |

| Tony,
Sometimes the birds in the lowest boxes also claim some of the floor. If a squeeker gets to the floor it probably wont be able to get back to its box. and may get bullied, put 2 bricks on the floor and lay a small plank on top of them so that the squeeker can get under there. That way they wont get bullied when your not there. That's what I did when I kept all my birds together.
Regards

| I agree with whats been said, that youngster should be out of there and not still in the nest, if you plan on doing this again put a spare bowl in the box and either the hen will lay in it or the youngster will move into it. But generally its ok all mine lay in the bowl while youngsters still in them, on the secod round. |

| I have a few floor nesters. Many boxes not used. Usually they are fine. However one got scalped this year. Very young. Hand fed it in the YB loft. It was not really old enough to hide. But that is an excellent idea, place for them to go. Fed half ration yesterday to the young birds. They were very hungry today. The scalped youngster came and ate out of my hand after a while. Others followed pretty soon. Put the wires down on the speed trap and they popped in without too much of a problem from the small cage that confines them to the landing board. They are like kids, stomach or crop empty brain kicks in! First toss today old birds. Some racers, some two year olds trained once some yearlings never trained. 40 plus degrees sunshine light wind. 12 miles. Maybe something scattered them but they came in from all directions. Oh well, another toss same place tomorrow. They arrive in the time I expect them will move them up 25 miles. First race this week end but will pass on it. Go the week after 150 miles. Not fit enough yet. Then the young go out. Stress time!!! |

| Good morning all, there are now 2 eggs in the nest pan with this chick, I looked under the wings and I'd say the are almost full but not totaly yet. The hen and eggs seem fine at the moment plus the chick has not been booted out so thats good. If it did it would not get back in as the nest is tohigh up. I will also try the wood on bricks for it to hide under just incase it is kicked out. thanks for all your tips and help gang Tony |

| Is there a reason behind putting the ring on the birds right leg and also upside down this is what I have been told to do by the club sec he said it make life easyer when it comes to raceing the birds and booking them in. Thanks, Tony |

| The majority of people hold the pigeon in their right hand with the bird facing them. Its the right way up when you read it, and you can turn the ring round with your left hand that is free. |

Thanks Boosey, not that I have put rings on the left leg but what if a bird has the ring on the left leg any issues when it comes to racing the bird mate? Are the ring we put on the birds the same colour for every club as in are club the are pink 2014 and if there not will that course any problems when racing the birds ? Thanks, Tony |

| It dosnt matter which way up or which leg just makes it easier on marking night putting the birds through for the race. Rings are a different coluor each year, so you can see how old a pigeon is by looking at it. This years colour is pinky red. If you want to race young birds this year you will need to put those on your babies. |

| morning tony, glad to hear breeding is going well now.......one thing to remember when ringing ybs is that once they get to around 7 days old, they can grow quite quickly from morning till night time.....
what im saying is once they get to around ringing age keep an eye on them because sometimes ive though "oh it will be ok later today", and when ive gone to ring it the yb has grown .....so ive needed to use washing up liquid and a hair clip to get it on.....JMO |
