Hatched about Dec 25th. Plus 4 others, had to put old bands on them. I usually wean soon as they can eat but last year left them in the old bird flying loft and they flew out with the old birds. Fortunately non were scalped. Did not race them last year, hence too many until the races start. They were trained.
Don. Yes you are right. Most are. Out of ten banded 8 are red or mealy. Two blues are related way back to the Paddy cock.

Down here O/S  Smile  Smile  it's the Gits breed that comes to mind for the feather legs etc. Bought 3, 40 odd years ago & it was an embarrasement Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes when I put some of them in the units to race. Couldn't see there feet/toes for feathers they were covered that much. Still raced OK Wink Wink on certain days & even today they still come out here on the odd occasion in my birds. cheers

Have some blues and checks with feathered legs also. Strange! Maybe to keep their feet warm?
Many years ago I imported Grooters from Hammond and whitaker. 10 of them. They bred many young. None were any good. Bushaerts also do not do well over here. Horses for courses.
