| Looking at different readings and views of others, I feel that the problem for so many losses, may be due to Disorientation due to a virus. I know over the past good few years, if a member of the family have needed to see the doctor, they are told its a virus. So we dont really understand what is the problem. This is why i feel Disorientation may be playing a big part. |

| I think when people lose there birds they always look for a reason most birds will fly ok with wind behind them. but takes a extra special bird to fly 400 to 500 milel against a 5 to 10 mph headwind I notice most races to south shields are mostly tail winds so birds have it easy doing high ypm give them a headwind different story they lose them may need to get tougher birds. ones that will fight they way home no matter what the conditions |

| peregrine strikes poorly bred birds bred from paper and not tested parents and bad management of the birds are the most valid reasons for losses for me |

Darren I would have to agree 110%, but can I just say with young bird loses there is to much money at stack in open races, gold rings, B/B races and the pressure is on getting the pigeon to the race because it has the required ring on it, I know fanciers who send just for the sack of it, even if things are not well at the loft |

Fair play amberleaf for your comment and I will agree with the head winds it tests the birds and the best get in or as some will say it sorts the wheat from the shaft |

| More and more of this problem, Twice by the loft i was bitten this week. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/mosquito-magnets-installed-port-liverpool-9636057I do think there is a link to young bird sickness, from West Nile Virus. Maybe its the Mosquito passing it on, through other means, People have said its airborne, others say it passed on through other wild birds. In Germany there is a virus they have called the Bully-bacteria, I have started to give my young birds, Red cap Yakult, 1 little bottle to 2 litres of water, to help build up Immune system. Whats your views on this, Is there a answer to the problem.

| George another thing you can use for the youngsters is Live Bio Yogurt
Also you can use Natural Live Yogurt on the corn it helps keep the Cocci count down mate |

| primalac is the best probiotic I have used ...I use ropa b too and have found the 2 products very good for bacterial, cocci and canker and fungal issues (droppings test regularly taken) but a virus is a whole different ball game all you can do is stop secondary infections moving in while the birds immune system is compromised fighting the virus. |

George tell you something else about Alan I read at the end of every racing season once he has sorted the pigeons out, he would remove all water fountains and feed and would not go to the loft for 3 days This was to help clear the birds out |

| its all about how comfortable you feel not feeding and watering your birds for 3 days mr darragh is quite extrovert in his conduct with the pigeons many many national winners don't adopt the same approach ie mr gilbert the coopers etc...and do quite well lol winning international races too I know which approach I feel comfortable with some guys just see the pigeons as objects to gain a bit of glory in the pigeon world which is fine but as far as I am concerned I like to adopt a different role and look in the mirror in the morning knowing I have not used or abused and done right by the birds.ffs where has the enjoyment gone in racing its not all their is in life |
