| so many fanciers us apple cider vinegar but im not sure if any of them actually know why. I think its got frolic acid in it, but what actual proven scientific benefits are there for pigeons. Does it clear the airway at all and keep the nasal passage clear? |

| Interesting read that George, I make my own wine and it sometimes comes out like vinager, maybe I should try that. I always manage to find my way home when I'm drunk. |

mark, how would you treat sour crop if a pigeon had it......? I think a couple of mine had it a couple of years ago but I just gave white sesqui tablets... |

| those of you using ropa-b will never have sour crop or have the need to use apple cider vinegar...I use it all year round when breeding too ...never a problem with any fungal/candida issues according to the droppings test results |

i think putting things in the water or on the corn make the fancier feel better more than the birds I agree with you to some extent ...but some things do have their place the ropa product has been tested extensively in the poultry industry and the results are very good so much so that it is now being used in pigs and cattle (for human consumption) egg production was up and medications reduced dramatically ...tests for fungal and bacterial infections during its use were very positive ...some may be more familiar with the product name for the farming industry (ropadair) ropa b was then formulated for racing pigeons and cage birds ,the same company sells other products that I don't use as I don't see any benefits to their use atb |

| I do thinks different to most fanciers as I don't race I look at my birds and if they look in top condition I leave them alone there is one other thing I do which not many do I only top up the drinker and only wash it out when it is really bad the other thing I only treat for conditions not sickness by conditions I mean sour crop, going light and one eye cold these conditions can be treated very easily and bird will recover in a day were with sickness it is much longer and may be passed on to other birds |

yes i agree over the years i have tried most things and with the odd one seen the benefits ropa being one of them but some fanciers swear by garlic for getting a good fall of down feathers and imho the only reason for the fall of down is because the pigeon dislikes both the smell and taste of garlic if you withold water or corn from birds you get the down coming out because they are put under stress |

| I use Ropa b 2 or 3 times a week, for general health, good moult, good gut flora.
I use the water from the veg that my missus boils up (no salt), for iron once or twice a week.
Multi vitamins once a week for anything they are lacking. |

| Beats me, faniers say they never use anything one minute and it turns out they use everything but the kitchen sink.
Rubbish to say pigeons do not like garlic, mine had it every day and they could have drank from the pond but had to fill the drinkers up every day, so all the young had it from hatching.
Proof of the pudding, my pigeons were never ill, never had YB sickness, only the very odd one going light and Old Hands remedy solved that overnight.
They got NO MEDICATION or any AIDS to win.
They won for me both racing and showing and also for many other fanciers who I gifted pigeons to.
There is no wonder the sport attracts very few new members when fanciers make out it to be a complicated medicated sport.
Regards..
