Oil for Pigeons

I bought some Backs Omega Plus Oil at the beginning of the year, and although it is very good, it is quite expensive.

Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative please.

Yes edgie - I give mine linseed - it is the any different to rape.

I just feed oil seeds no need for added expense buying oils ,birds look forward to the treat I give it them in the morning with a grit and mineral mix birds are always lined up in the morning waiting for breakfast ....

linseed can get stuck in there throats , rape seed is nice and round, I prefer the later .

Do you give then this before their real breakfast - of is this their breakfast Darren?

Do you give your bird other seeds in the morning?  And what grits and minerals do you use?

Does anyone give an extra oily seeds when the birds are moulting.

At the minute I'm giving the birds cod liver oil twice a week, I used to use it when I had finches and it gave good feather quality, so we'll see how the pigeons are on it, just a little on the seed and away to go

no this is breakfast versa laga all in one and conditioner in the mornings but a pot of black mineral and bleached salt is offered daily mixed 50/50 also red stone and clay block too and crushed oyster shells are given a few times a week ...during breeding offered daily ....main feed is given evenings

They do David, I'm using it on the yb race team, was recommended to me so I'm giving it a try.

Yep, I mix it about 30 minutes before feeding to the birds, smells nice, and the birds like it.

We give ours rape seed oil and extra virgin olive oil.

yes but its not related to any seeds just oregano though it must contain a carrier agent I have tried the powder and it contains wheatgerm so I got some of that to try against the aqueous solution but prefer the aqueous solution ...my corn merchant ran out of ropa so I got some rohnfried avidress and been using that last few weeks I am going to continue to use on one section then send off dropping and swab tests to compare to ropa as avidress would work out a 1/3rd saving by its use and have some lovely babies in the nest on it too it is oregano based with cinnamon and organic acids a natural product

I went out and bought some black rape seed and a good quality Rape seed Oil this afternoon.

So now my birds are All Greased Up and as slippery as hell!  The problem is - all their feathers are sticking together and they look like an oily rag! lol.

just plain old vinegar and salt for the bath phil, cheap as chips and keeps nasties away...

same here just salt and vinegar
