Temp OK at 15 C. East wind at 60 kmph. sunshine. Lofts face East, Birds would have had a helluva job landing. Too much damage in these situations, Young birds have yet to get out. So all kept in. They are in the aviary daily but when they do get out, hopefully tomorrow, rain and cloud, less wind, they will stick close. If not then too bad. Smart ones will be OK. First race May 6. About 10 days ago dumped eggs from one loft. Should lay next day or so then be close to hatching first race. Hens go. Other loft knocked off some newly hatched babies. 4 pair. 10 day eggs when first race occurs. hens go. Other pairs eggs out next week or when hatched. Clipboard in each loft as to laying dates etc,. Have to pay attention to detail. Widowhood is probably simpler, may be later in the year. Young birds and darkening. Had some days when could not darken on time. Intermittent. Exhaust fan does not work. Never used it for 4 years. So no darkening. Need the air flow. So 500 yb race may be a no go. Diatamaceous earth put down with shavings. Tick season. Dogs go rabbit hunting (Easter and all) and came back with a few ticks. Put DE on the dogs also. One tick must have transferred from one of the dogs in the car yesterday. Wife found one on her neck. She yelled and made a fuss. She said "thought they only went on dogs?" Said "They go on both dogs and bitches." Could not resist! Now I am in the doghouse! Life is not fair!!

Ha ha, nice one Hal. Sometimes you can't resist even though you know it'll get you in hot water.

Yes. Last time was when she lost her broom. Muttering on about it for a while. Asked her were she parked it. "Parked it?" Said "You do fly around on it dont you?" She got mad! "When I find it it will be up your rectum!" Told her had to go look after the birds, regular excuse for most. Nicer day today. Some rain but warm. Most youngsters out for the first time. Sat on the loft roof, puttered around a while. Turkey buzzard overflew way up high. Some dived in others took off. strong on the wing. Not flying together as usual for first timers. Came down then feeling good took off again. Nothing I can do about raptors so went in to town for an hour or so. Most were back on the loft on return. Open traps. Not hungry. 5pm feeding time they all went in except the red hen. One late comer came back and went in and she followed. Happy as a pig in s**t! Have faith in that hen. Perhaps misguided but gut feeling. Her nest mate is a mealy cock and smart. They are out of Tmaks best ones. grandchildren. However, disappointments are part of the pigeon game. So am prepared.
