| Wooden crates, plastic crates, straw on the floor all will work. Never had a pigeon yet ask me how much the nest box cost. They are adaptable. |

| yes denise, like Darren says, b and q will cut everything to size if you buy the wood there, you just need to screw it together .....
I got mine from shire timber in leeds, I told them the measurements and they cut it all to size for me, I found their ply was cheaper than b and q , and worked out at around a 1/3rd of the price of buying ready made ones. |

| denise I have found this size to be ample...30inch wide by 15 inch deep by 15 inch high this size allows for the second bowl for the pair if you wish also this size will allow for installation of plastic fronts ...I only use half the front and leave half open so any intruders can be expelled easily...if its too confined it can get meesy ie eggs smashed ybs trampled etc...atb hope the project fairs well |

| that will be the problem if you have even just 1 spare cock it will be a nightmare so if you have any spare cocks in that section you will never have harmony best get them out asap and I am sure things will be ok after that |

| you generally can tell by the behaviour denise, or usually the head on the cock is round at the top or flat on the hen....cock usually bigger, but not always. |

| cocks do full circles when showing to the hen I call it spinning ,you know when the cocks crop is puffed and he is calling to the hen and spinning around ....a hen just goes side to side as such, also the cock will be down in the pan calling the hen to nest ...observation is the way to learn if you watch you will soon know hens don't really fight that much either they just observe the cocks bravado ...if you identify yer cocks and hens then write the ring numbers down or get 2 types of plastic colour rings the coil type and put them on the appropiate birds...if it was me I would take out all the birds from the breeding section and just put the definite cocks back in where the boxes are and let them claim a box each then introduce the hens once the cocks have settled on a box each atb |

| As Yorkshire lass I would have thought you could recognise a cock when you see one. However, the cock does the chasing, and the hen lays the eggs.
However, you can as with humans, get the odd peculiarities.
If you just have all the pigeons running together, they wiil usually sort themselves out in a pecking order, but to have either spare hens or cocks is not a good idea.
If the pigeons are from different sources it may take time to sort matters out.
However, all the best and tight lines.
Regards.
