Farm beans been used by many top fanciers for years and some still use nothing else now. All a pigeon needs is the amount of nutrients to do what is asked of it, and this can be given in numerous different manners, much none sense talked regarding feed. I gave a mixture all year round to give the pigeons a bit of a change, think they would have done just as well on farm beans. In particular when feeding youngsters. Regards. |

| I think beans and barley were more popular a good while ago, mainly because they were a cheap alternative, beans a good crop filler and barley pigeons would leave when they had enough.
I just been for corn today 20kg bags, beans were £12.70 and barley £12.50 yet a general mix with probably 6 or more different grains was £12.00, I got the mix.

Think fanciers will twig on they are being ripped off by posh bags and go back to basics. Stopped buying seed for the wild birds half of it is waste and any decent stuff costs a bomb. Just bought bag of pea nuts that will last for a few weeks, worth the cost to watch the squirels a meter from the patio doors. Think if I was starting up again would consider beans and maize only. It matters not which seed and feed comes from as long as it is right for the job. Regards. |

| the thing is with farm stuff like beans and barley is that its left hanging about so that every rodent has rifled through it and therefore cannot be trusted, besides a balance of good varying seed is surely more beneficial,a heavy feed of barley is not good for the moult either |

| during the moult and middle/long distance races with sunflower hearts as opposed to using dubious oils ....in the moult i would add extra to the conditioner but dont give to much as very fattening to idle/stock birds |
