Remember using condy's crystals/pottasium permannate years ago, thought they were pink. Stopped using them or anything else 50 odd years ago when the pond was built. found they bathed in the waterfall bloom covered the pond, looked as fit as the woodies who did the same, very cheap and more effective, you cannot beat nature. Have no idea George, at that time I just went with the trend, but must have thought it had something to do with lice etc; Think anyone can still get it but know at one time the chemist would not sell it. Regards. |

Looked it up oldstrain pink when put in water and was when I used it. Lime keeps all creepy crawlies away. Limewash whole loft, lime deep litter and perches dusted, experience over many years better than theory. Bag of builders lime once the litter is set up lasts months. Regards. |

If you mishandle a cream cake David it can choke you. I never had a problem you found it nasty because it works, but mis handled you have problems with anything. When I was young nearly every fancier used lime in their lofts, then the commercial boys cottened on and used lime in their present useless sweet smelling rubbish having taken all the strength out, very nice smell useless deterent. As long as it works barnie matters not what it is, I worked on the principle the devil you know so why change. Can remember trying burnt lime strait from the kiln. Put a couple of small pieces into a plastic bucket and added water, the water boiled and evaporated the bucket melted, gave it greater respect from then on. Worked after moving to Scarborough for a year as weighman at the Slater Queries. Burnt lime for the steel works, I sent it by rail to all the steel works. Had to leave when my job turned up that lasted 38 years. One of the saddest things was a very good friend fell into a kiln and was not able to be saved. LIFE ????????/ Regards. |

Regards. chicken farmers have used diatamaceous earth for decades its a natural substance dredged off the sea bed ,i would not want a lung full of lime but each to there own,i never used any of the scented stuff either,also the diatamaceous earth can be used as a natural wormer if corn is moistened and the diatom powder added ,i respect your opinion misty but dont do everything down as some other things do indeed work and are natural and cost effective atb |

| Could not agree more oldstrain, one man's meat etc;
Never run others methods down just keep as close to nature myself and use the things nature provides.
Played the video of the Doncaster Show again, there must be nearly a thousand different aids and cures available from the commercial boys.
When I was young there were a handful, pigeons were healthier raced and won at several years old, flew Rome and other far off places.
Todays pigeons are totally drug reliant, knackered at the yearling stage and many lost from the backyard.
I never used drugs nor aids to win, just cultivated a healthy loft of pigeons by going along with nature survival of the fittest and sorting the naturally healthy from those needing drugs.
They did all I asked of them and also for many others.
Took time and selection but well worth it.
ONE MAN'S MEAT etc;
Regards.

I know I go on a bit oldstrain but garlic is in my opinion is the best natural thing for pigeons health and immune system and it can cost nothing wild or grow your own. Takes time but well worth it. The commercial boys got hold of it and mucked it up. Cloves are all you need crushed. Know rabbits eat it, if caught at a time in the year you can taste it in the meat. Regards. |

| used to use garlic a few years ago, crushed a clove and put it in the drinker...... i would change the water daily but leave the clove in, i did hear some would simply top the water up each day, never did find out which was the best way .
i know someone who leaves cloves in a bottle and adds a few spoonful's each day to the water , not sure its the best way but each to their own i suppose . |
