i know what your saying david but i suppose its not their fault really, just doing what they know to be honest....anyway that pied hen was going to be a good bird, its half sister to the pied i put on yesterday . the bloke i bought the mother off said she will breed winners for me , i put her with 2 of my best cocks this year and last, but i do,nt think she will be racing this season now,i might put her with the cock i got off steve the other day.hopefully they will breed me some winners

Yep they are stocking up for sure, If you look at the derby cam there are now quite a few dead birds in the nest there ready, she wont get much of what she likes when the cock is hunting, so shes off to tesco,s each morning after the best. I am driving our training lorry this year so Im going to keep a video diary each day, then will post the results up here each time, maybe get a good video of percy doing her worst.

martyn, i remember readin in one of the weeklies that before liberation the convoyer lets a couple of rockets off out of site of the pigeons, they dont bang but eject stars etc which he swears scares any bops/hawks away and enables a safe liberation.....

I know some members here have let flare rockets off as the perigrine is chaising thier birds, and it makes no difference, but bangs do stop them, I shoot at them with the 12 bore and they disapear fast.

Yes last year I had 1 every morning hitting my youngsters at 8.00am. one day he came in a bit too close and I had her. not been able to get 1 in that close again, but the bang is enough to stop them attaking the birds once you see 1.

dont suppose i`d be able to so that martyn, a shotgun going off in the middle of a housing estate might attract a bit of attention.............the air rifle should be enough to stop a hawk in its tracks tho, dont you think.

I am lucky, I live on a farm no real neybours around and no one living too close, Im always in my fields shooting pigeons(woodies) and rabbits and foxes so no one would blink an eye If I am out shooting, as I am on most days anyway. Remember if you have a sparrow hawk attack and it downs a bird, weather or not its dead or not, it will come back for a second look always, then is your chance. You could make a dummy bird up easy, If you have a dead pigeon as we do most years, cut the wings off and keep them, they dry out and as theres not much flesh on them the dont smell. Make what looks like a bird out of an old sock and attatch the wings to the side then put it where it downed the bird, I garentee it will come back and land on it, this is where you rair gun will come in usefull.
