| Hi all,
I'm thinking of smartening up the inside of my current set-up by painting it white (it's currently wood stained brown), what type of paint would you advise - I assume it's not going to be any type of gloss but would you think conventional emulsion would be ok or is it best to use some kind of lime-wash??
Thanks in advance |

| hi steve, if i were to paint the inside of my loft i think i would first undercoat it , then use normal houshold emulsion....................the reason why i would undercoat first is because in the past when ive had my loft white , if it wasnt undercoated the damp would show through and make it look scruffy in no time at all......... as you say, i too wouldnt use gloss paint......but as it happens the floor whitener i have got for you can be also used as an emulsion by just adding water. hope this helps steve. |

| Thanks, I was slightly concerned that emulsion might have some reason for it not to be used I didn't realise that about the floor whitener - good news |

| just a thought i was told not to paint the inside at all as it holds moisture when painted so 2 of my lofts are not painted and must say they are drier than the other loft which is painted no dew at all |

| i havnt painted the inside of mine either, partly because if i do it will need to be redone every year to keep up to it...........and partly because i dont think it actually makes any difference to the pigeons themselves, just looks nice for the fancier. |

| He never had problems with mice or lice and fleas on the pigeons, when i start up trhinking of doing the same myself
But never asked about the smell but when in there loft you could not smell the cresoulte they must have allowed it to dry completely |

| Just to support what Don is saying I am a big fan of creosote, my new loft has been done inside and out with it, it stinks for a week then nothing, believe me bugs of any discription hate the stuff its just pioson, Im a believer in not painting, as I said years ago Mine were and unpainted lofts are drier, paint blocks the woods capabilities to absorb moisture, but creosote doesnt. If your not in a rush to get the birds in say for a week then creosote is the way. |
