no i dont infact i think they mature quicker in everyway i don't know a great deal about the darkness but what i have herd is that the mature in all ways much quicker im assuming this is due to chemical/hormonal changes being triggered sooner by an erly much more speedy moult and i would think the eye (eye sign ) would progress the same as the rest of the body and imo i dont think there eyes should be affected by being on darkness as its perfectly natural for a birds eyes to be subjected to this amount of dark just not in April - rudderfet wrote:
- Just a note about the eyes, I have studied the eyes for years and I can tell you something for nothing and Im sure all eye sign boys will tell you the same, you can tell nothing from a youngsters eyes, a yearlings eye may show promise, but not until the bird is 2 and over will it be fully developed. I have studied and taken pictures of eyes for years and they constantly change up until 2 then it seems to stop but I have seen some change a little even after that but rarely and not after 2/3 years.
would you agree though rudderfet that any changes in the eye after about 18-24 months are the result of an illness or injury that is reflected in the eye |

| I think the difference in the body on a good darkness pigeon Ian, is tremendous and for such youngbirds the maturity of the body feathers is great. But mentality, they are just youngsters.

| well i know nothing about eyes and no one has ever come up with cast iron proof to pick winners or we would all have lofts full of them im not saying there isnt anything in it but i woner what the eyesign men would make of all these over priced birds on sale so called proven breeders most on sale are brothers sisters to the ones winning not actualy winners them selfs |

| I think some people has hyped up eye sign in the past so much that people don't rely see its use
I see it more as a ones of the tools used in choosing breeders and pairing up rather than a indication of race ability and i think most will agree that the best racers dont always make the best breeder and vice versa . there is some sign that could indicate racing ability. but just because a pigeon has sign that shows it has the ability to race well, if the management isnt right then its not going to win |

| TBH I pay no heed to it. It's a good indication of health and that's it for me. Although some do have pretty eyes. |

| I've heard of people pairing up just on eyesigns alone. I know I shouldn't But I often say they don't fly with their eyes. |

| If people bought birds just on eyesign alone, then I think I could make some good money. I had one guy look at some of our birds, fair play to him, he did get over 50% right. |

| Only thing I can honestly say about eyes with some conviction is that every pigeon has two. I know jack about it.

| well you could say that about any method of selection of breeders. because as far as i am aware there is no method of selection that will guarantee you 100% success including eye sign. but i blame the so called experts that shout to the world about eye sign making it out something its not. and imo its them that are flaud not the theory
one name i will mention that has used eye sign in there loft with a measure of success is Jack Barkel he flew very well in his time and i don't think any one can doubt that

| as you say many parts make up a pigeon and also the hands that the bird is managed under we could make a long list on the subject but all play a vitol role |

| I once proved that point once, with a tippler cross, I used to have as a dropper. One day I crossed it with a racer and won 3rd with it. |
