I agree Ray I think with all the studs and adds selling pigeons in BHW, etc they no longer get rid of their weak birds like they did, they sell them on. I also agree things like darkness, light systems and interfering with nature don't help, as for mobile phone masts and digital TVs they probably add to it. |

| An awful lot of pigeons bred from current fashionable names not performances. For example people at Blackpool show buying stock where you had to go back 3 and 4 generations on the pedigree just to find something that had even seen a basket. Breeding from half sisters to a cousin of an aunt of a grandson of a pigeon that won a first from 60miles in Belgium then they drop like flies here in UK by the time they get to 120 miles in a NE wind in April. I know a lot of good proven birds are still going down so maybe something about phones/satellite comms and hawk strikes are having an impact but if you're racing birds with just a load of fancy names in their ancestry rather than solid performances in good birdages, then your going to loose more than a few. JMO anyway. |

| I personally dont think anything like that affects our birds, and my reasoning is this, If Transmiters or anything similar confuse or interfere with the homing ability of the birds, Then surely because all pigeons navagate the same way, all the birds would be lost 100%. But this is never the case no matter how bad a race is there are always birds home, some birds always get back, and this simply wouldnt happen they would all be lost. Just my opinion and theory. |

| Could be wrong ??????? but I've learnt to put a lot of faith in what my bones tell me. *****
The extra microwaves in the air will certainly not do any good to help our birds navigate, especially when the new proposed 4G or whatever they call it doubles the amount of microwaves in the air overnight. Solar flares from the sun are at their most active they have ever been in history at the moment and they interfere with the Earths magnetic field and scientists have recently proven that pigeons use the Earths magnetic field to navigate. Along with all the man made crap in the atmosphere and the way over the years that many of the real Long distance birds have been crossed and their navigation skills have been watered down in the name of speed perhaps it affects most if not all of our birds. This can be seen in the eyesign of some of these old strains that home from 600 miles or more and it seems to me that perhaps they can navigate with a mixed up weaker signal, wheras many of the watered down strains of faster flying birds cannot.
Interesting read/concept etc, once science comes into the equation I'm lost ( I'm but a simple man) who has always followed the kiss theory & what my bones tell me. Such a subject as this, for what the truth may be etc most of us we can only speculate. It would be a brave man thou who would suggest ?????? that things will improve from what they are now, in the future I suspect. ***** |
