Na its not age mate its just practise, when I was racing about 1960 I used to clean out twice a year march and october never use to clean out while they were racing, the birds were content and happy and I had some good times with them, mind Iv had some good times even now some might say too many, but Im one of the lucky few never had to do to much work with them I think Im what they call a nataul   Wink  Wink  Wink  Wink  Wink  Wink

Truth be told Ginger  Smile  Smile I was a news paper man in the breeding loft  Wink  Wink for many many years. Boxes were specially built to suit the local paper here "The age" Nice & big & I then used to collect them from all my neighbours & put a whole one under the bowl. Then every few days I would just lift the top few layers out & start all over again etc. Easy/cheap  Smile  Smile & the birds were always contented type of thing. Now !!!!!!  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Wink  Wink "The natural thing" You would fall over backwards laughing Ginger I suspect if you walked into my old race loft "hens section" here at the moment. Think of a chess board  Wink  Wink & every second square on the floor in the deep litter, one would find a hen/hens sitting on eggs. 2/4/6 take your pick type of thing. Some of the nest's are 4 to 6 inches high & made out of just about everything one could find in a back yard & more. Funny things pigeons, if you let them tell you what is best for them.  cheers

your right thier Nac, if one keeps a eye on the birds they will tell you what they wont or do it the way they like it, its not what you want the thing is keep the birds happy, I personaly think we have done a lot to the loses to saut our self and got to win which dose not work all the time, you can fool the birds some times but not all the time well thats what I think any way, injoy your birds they bring a lot of fun if you win its a bonus.
