What's the hardest thing to master in pigeon racing.
In my opinion it's getting the feeding right.

Myself i would say the system your are going to be racing, Time management for that system, and if you can manage that, Is the system right for those birds in your loft. It comes down to Who, What, When, Why and where, and you may still get it wrong.

health....its a bigger package than most realise and I don't mean ramming medications down their necks every week ,grahams correct in what he says in my opinion the loft environment is paramount to basic health but that's just the start of it ...remember we live in a very damp climate with very unpredictable weather...keeping birds healthy when they are mixing in the basket with tom dick and harrys birds is a different ball game to when they are resting in the off season

I've always been intrigued G Smile Smile when people talk about ventilation & the birds to area ratio etc type thing in a loft. From my perspective I've seen some cracking flyers here whose line of thought is differant to yours (Bricks on floor senaro) Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes. Now Wink Wink I will go with top quality pigeons of the highest order & I have a feeling they can/could overcome most issues to do with managemant, time, feed, decease & training as an example.
Now !!!. Good topic Smile Smile & with an ounce of luck Wink Wink we just might become a bit more the wiser here. cheers

that's ok when you are lucky enough to be there when they get home from training, if you train yourself the birds are usually home well before you..........so this makes it harder to get them into a routine

Don's advise, makes it all sound so easy I suspect David Wink Wink. Sadly tho Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes for many it all falls apart, if one has to work till dark, has trees in abundance all around them (Like me) or are surrounded by houses etc. cheers

David here's one thing to do yes you are correct your birds beat you back from training but why not fly your birds for an hour first then get your birds in give them no food

Get your birds in basket leave them in the baskets in loft then get the food truffs out and place a small amount of food in them but allow the birds to know that food is waiting for them

They will not mess about if you come home and see pigeons still out messing about then lock the loft feed the ones in the loft and once all feed allow the others in BUT DO NOT FEED THEM

The next night they will not mess about if they do and can't learn quickly via there stomach then they are not worth keeping
