| Still looking to pair our race birds up on the 26th Jan - that is if we have any hens to pair up.
Today another 'hen' decided it was a cock (or at least it thinks so) - I really do NOT want to breed birds as late as we did last year - too much trouble!
So now we are down to 6 hens and 15 cocks.
I think I am going to select the best 6 cocks from our race team and then let them choose their mates.
And race the rest of the cocks on a 'sort of' celibate system.
We will see - I could get better advice or come up with a brain-wave before then.
The two lots of eggs I had to put under foster parents at the beginning of breeding, because other cocks were trying to claim their boxes, are all fertile and the two couples in question, have laid their second round over the past 3 days. So things are looking up.

Bedlam "smile, smile" I can relate to that O/S etc. Many a time the first round doesn't quite turn out like the text book tell's us as such. Cheers. |

| Don't get too despondent Chris - they will come around.
Are your birds a 'Love Match', or did you choose the pairs and put them together yourself. That can make a difference.
I still have two pairs that get on together OK, (no fighting or pecking) but I have never seen them copulating and they don't seem too bothered about making a nest.
Keep cool and don't loose your nerve!

Your right Chris, it is what it is, I've just put rings on our first chicks and I've 2 pairs not laid yet, just let em get on with it, it'll happen soon enough |
