Moved out of our house in frogland Empty
PostSubject: Moved out of our house in frogland   Moved out of our house in frogland EmptySat Oct 28, 2017 9:40 am

We moved out of our house in frogland a day ago and staying at a holiday cottage just down the road until early Monday morning.

Then we will set off for the ferry from St Malo.

The removal men took away 28 tons of our stuff the other day and we still have two cars and a trailer full of kit.

Updates as and when.

All 60 of our pigeons are in crates with plenty of room. We have the crates out twice a day for an hour or so each time, just so the birds get some daylight and fresh air.

The two main lofts have been taken down and sent with the removal men to the UK. Did I say, they took 28 tons of our stuff away with them.

When we finally get the finances sorted out, the removal men will be back and we will start putting the new lofts together.

If anyone fancies giving us a hand when the time comes, we would be very appreciative.

Talking of lofts - what happened to the loft ideas for the competition?

"Talking of lofts - what happened to the loft ideas for the competition?

Phil"
The loft has to be to your liking and the birds liking. Many good ideas were posted on here. Pick and choose scenario. However, if you are putting up the old lofts, then in my opinion only, if the birds were happy there stick with them. If you can renovate or change some aspects of the lofts to make the birds happier then that would be ideal. Many years ago when I started flying pigeons here, their accommodation was part of a top story of a barn. Wired off part of a hay loft. The birds loved it and flew very well to it. Wired off front, hay and cobwebs and dust in the back part. Club members laughed when they saw it. Not clean, ventilation is garbage etc etc,. Out of the ten young bird races won 3 and was in the top 5 in the others. So of course they thought I was doping. Then asked what strain I had. Told them. Barn pigeons!
Actually they were some pigeons I had gifted. Their motivation was love of home.
Just an observation. Nowadays every loft has to be spotless, ventilated just right and over here, heated in winter. But each to their own. Very many who do the preceding win races. Also many do not. Some pigeons excel in those conditions. Others do not. Feeding regimes, med regimes, many, very many do it. But still more losers than winners. There is no one formula that suits all pigeons and people. Again, JMO, but love of home tops all consistently in motivation.

We are on the ferry from St Malo to Portsmouth, then from Portsmouth with our two cars and trailer, back to Glos.

We should be alive and kicking by Wednesday.

I have ordered a lot of new kit from Screwfix, so we will have to collect that soon as poss.

Speak later.

Got to get some rest now.

Tuesday mid-day.

We are in a little farm cottage not too far from Dursley.

Wi-Fi as slow as you can get, so not big wordy posts from me, I think.

We had a good crossing, but not used to all the cars and lorries everywhere.

Just need a few days to get settled and we will be OK.
