need advice on a hen.

ive got a hen that has been trying to lay for over a week now.the bones have been parted for ages but all i feel is soft and spongy around the vent area.i think its either a soft shelled egg or the egg has broken.whats the best way to get her to lay it?can she become infected if it stays in their too long?

Have you placed another egg in the bowl this sometimes helps

its when like in a human when they get a bowel/womb collapse, it turns inside out and moves to where it shouldnt be/falls out etc...........
