Honestly others get too concerned about others when really they should concentrate on their own birds or whatever it may be. That's why I don't really bother with other flyers in my town much as it always or in most cases causes problems or arguments...I will help lads if I can   give birds away free ect but don't tell them how many to fly  or how to go on ...

I suppose thats the way of the world .

Just tell the truth

only two fanciers i`m friends with, a local fancier and his grandson ..........club members are not friends as such, they / i ,are simply members of a pigeon club, who wouldnt normally have any contact with each other apart from pigeons......

friends are different to acquaintances

Actual fancier friends few but those who are and were, ( several gone to the loft in the sky)  I could rely on I never actually socialised with it was always pigeon related.

New many I would never have exchanged the time of day with in our sport.


Our friends are all in the dance, bowls, fishing, snooker  and eating out brigades
and at the present time we are all just running up phone bills, (we always, being concerned reverse charges, that is what friends are for).

Pretty much the same here David if being honest, not saying it's a good thing etc but it is what it is type of thing & I've never really had problems here talking to my trees     if looking for a sensible type conversation .

this is why i prefer animals to humans knackered ..........

Funny people pigeon men . I speak to anyone and will help all but when we started winning well I couldn't believe how many friends requests I got on Facebook.  Normally they would not bother with us ...I even had one cheeky t**t say I wouldn't mind trying some of those van bels ...haha free he thought..he never got any and I deleted him ...bye bye

There is a fine line between helping and being taken for a ride.

What I found sad when pigeons I had given fanciers were sold after they had performed well and they came back for more.

One of the best parts of my life was having five close male friends, our families did not mix as our wives had different interests it was purely a boys thing, none were pigeon fanciers.

If anyone of us needed help the others with the ability to do so did what was needed in my case I did their books and tax returns etc; if I wanted help in other ways one or all would muck in choose what was involved money was never mentioned.

They also got me through the toughest time of my life.

Fair weather friends abound in the pigeon sport as in no other, true ones worth their weight in gold.

27 years ago we lived in a council flat, a rough (ish) estate, yet the people were friendly and would do you a favour, many an hour spent in their company laughing and chatting .........then we bought our house and moved to a "better" area, where 99% of the neighbours are ars*holes, and think they are important .

its either they are ars*holes, or they think i am .......cant for the life of me think why they might think that

after seeing the snow fight there Ray on Tv here last night nothing would surprise me about what goes on there at times etc .

i`d say around 15 years ago there was quite a bit of crime around my area, but for over 10 years now theres very, very little .........it was mainly car theives who grew up, or drug addicts who either died or moved away,

not a lot goes on now ...

agree ,was brought up on a council estate ,kids peeling gum off the pavement kids knocking the crap out of eachother for a marble ,street wars on the tip but all said and done people on that estate stuck together ,i remember when the gypsies came through annualy and used to use the local boozer and bare knuckle bouts outside the pub between gypsies and locals ...shook hands afterwards no grudges as such but once a local dog got stolen and was seen on the camp anyway owner went down and got beat up the next night i kid you not must have been a few hundred locals descended on the camp and got the dog back ,gypsy king sorted it in the end and gave the thief a good hiding ,could have got real nasty ...point being "the love of the common people" used to be strong ,just a bunch of selfish barstewards now and that estate has been ruined with immigration i have family still living there though atb
