| Done them with Colombovac earlier today, much earlier than they were done last year, hopefully gone ok, they look alright tonight anyway. Day off work and been glorious weather, even got the guttering back up on back of house that the snow brought down in January. |

Painting the fascia board here around my house etc as I speak Barnie Missus is rather impressed, some what at my skill. Said while I'm on a roll as such I could also paint our 2 pergolas & 2 carports before winter sets in just so everything matches etc . So wash, patch, sand & paint & who said, life's a breeze when you retire as such & especially when your 20 feet up a ladder in parts . don't envy you pal, painting is one chore I tend to shy away from, one blessing of UPVC windows and doors |

| alot do them at 21 days in the nest ...its what the rpra recommend for the one loft to but then they get done again after there arrival,i usually do them around 30 days old ...habit more than anything else and only ever did my own once, always used the colombovac as you can use a smaller needle as its not oil based, the white noblis is and is like syringing porridge unless you use a bigger needle ,cant stand the stuff atb |

| All these vacinations and drug treatments used by many fanciers just proves how far down the road to ruin the pigeons immune system has gone.

i read a dutch article about 5 years ago and in that it said it boosted the immune system, theres no doubt that first jab would make it react and weed out any vulnerable ybs ...always did mine around 5 weeks old and just the once and never suffered any form of serious ilness touch wood ...how much truth there is in the boosting of the immune system i dont know ,maybe rpra do it just in case some "noddy" does not do them as requested or not done them correctly |

| Scientific Journal.
Vacination overuse turns mild diseases into lethal ones thereby putting the immunocompromised at risk.
Common sense.

Same no side effects at all. Think you are right people worry too much and that causes more problems than the vacine. Cannot see an early solution to the whole affair with so many not taking part. Regards. |

| With regards to vacinating our fethered friends.
I wrote many moons ago that young birds should not be vacinated until the immunity from the parents had had time to mature.
I vacinated my youngsters as late as possible so that I met the clubs rules regarding vacination lists being presented.
The same with the old pigeons, as late as possible.
Never had YBS nor any problems with the old birds.
The odd confined stock birds were never vacinated and never ailed anything.
But immunity can be easily lost and hard to regain, takes years rather than weeks.

| best thing is to do as instruction says at 5/6 weeks old...would love to know the reasoning of doing them in the nest apart from being easier to practically do the job |

| The trouble is with vacinations those involved become dependant on them and the immune system is stifled.
All parents pass on certain immunity to their offspring which can be compromised by constant vacination and ultimately totally lost, as is the case in our sport.
No investigation has been done to see how long the parents go on passing on their own immunity, nor the means, soft food, genetics, etc;
Funny thing, woodies do not need vacination according to the flock in and around our garden and the large numbers found everywhere now.
Our sport has been ruined both competstive wise and the health of our feathered friends by those with no interest in the sport it's self, do not participate but have seen a means of how to exploit it for £££££££.

| You have a point there Knackered.
We have several flocks of townies and they never appear to suffer any ailments.
My wife feeds about 20 townies we inherited from a friend a couple of doors away when his wife who had fed them for years became unable to do so ( my friend does drop a bag of seed off accasionally although I have told him not to).
The point is they are in first class condition and have been throughout the winter.
Never seen one in any bad condition.
You cannot beat keeping as close to nature as possible.
Regards. |
