| they seem not to have the 4 - 5 year apprenticeships now, its all a piece of paper saying they have done a 3 week course, and they are qualified.......not surprising we get sub standard buildings nowadays, that will be lucky to last 20 years . |

| Been in the building game most of my life.
Seen brickies, joiners, plasterers etc; all who took a great pride in their work, until paid by results came along, targets had to be met etc;
Training schemes for all trades came along, too short and the end result poor quality of work in many cases and less pride in their work.
Bet the houses built in your neck of the woods Rossington and Edlington, must be 60 years ago are as good as the day they were built. ( met some good fanciers in both villages). (Wimpy).Also worked on some No Fines multi storey blocks in Doncaster it's self. (are they still there David, after I left think they started having condensation problems with the fabrication ?).
Nothing like it used to be, including our sport.
Regards. |

| the houses around me misty were built around 1926, so around 95 years old......they are solid, and if maintained would last another 50 years at least, not like some of the modern rubbish which is thrown up as quick as possible, using poor materials and sub standard workers, also with poor design , ok not all, but quite a lot .
also they try to build as many houses on the land as possible, small rabbit hutches, with small "gardens", |

also they try to build as many houses on the land as possible, small rabbit hutches, with small "gardens", Same, same here David with the new housing estates etc I call them dog boxes as such as you have hardly room to swing a cat in the back yards there now type of thing . Now talk about poor materials & sub standard type workmanship. Where do I start type of thing being some one who took pride in the job I left behind me when on the tools & everything had to be straight/strong & 100% to pass muster. Seen whole housing estates condemned here of late for the new owners, before their very eyes because of mismanagement by the developers/builders & their pursuit of the quick buck type of thing. |
