RPRA One Loft Young Birds 2021 Hot Spot 3 is taking place today from Richmond, North Yorkshire, a distance of 167 miles 566 yards.

Jeremy released the 552 birds at 9.00am into a west wind and said that they “cleared brilliantly”.

There will be a YouTube live stream camera pointing at the loft and trapping area nearer the arrival time, and as usual you can follow the live arrivals on Benzing Live.

The prize money from the dropped race will be re-distributed to this race.

Hopefully so Barnie unless, that is Coventry comes into the final scenario etc with our 2 little champs.

Suspect so David left overs there will require a wee hit out somehow I suggest & those bouncing round the loft will go for the extra cover factor I suspect, unfortunately.

Certainly hope not, any not being in reasonable condition should stay at home, a couple of mile tosses would do no good and put others at risk.

just checked and as far as i can see theres 467 birds back, not bad out of 552 sent .....

Think to drop that many from that distance after all the tosses etc; and in ideal conditions ????????.

yes, seems like they have finally got the act together, shame theres 1,000 birds down after 3 races .....but hey ho, weve 2 still in the final, and low numbers should be of benefit to us.

thing is i know everyone intentionally sends there best but the fact is even the best breeders will breed duffers so no guarantee in any nest eh ,i think most of the loses are down to constitution so therefore gone before the game even begins

Agree about not all are good oldstrain or we would only breed a couple a year.

The main thing I agree is health.

Many loft of pigeons are treated as routine and are the vets best friends, also many are useless after the yearling stage.

Obvious that they have to have flock treatment in a OLR.

Would like to know exactly what.

Those that are healthy could be adversely affected by flock treatment.

Would love to see the result of my suggestion that they get no treatment other than the compulsary vacination.

yes the constitution has been ruined by medication on a routine basis ie a 3 week cycle for canker,cocci,worms and the annual antibiotic treatment before pairing (parastop usually or similar and then on top of that another canker treatment and cocci and wormed again the parents are then paired and 9/10 lofts dont give a candida treatment after the antibiotic use i just wonder if this is then passed onto the ybs in the nest ,i guess if theres any present then it does no doubt ....is this the cause of what fanciers deem to be young bird sickness when racing i would use a canker treatment mid season but that would be it i would also worm annually but never treated for cocci ever unless a bird was really down after a period away from the loft ,the ybs were never treated only mid season with a canker treatment ,yes constitution is no1 and at a one loft if its lacking it will be found out ...you would only have to have 1 entrant carrying paratyphoid ,can you imagine knowing fanciers at club level and the varying husbandry from 1 fancier to the next it must be very challenging during the early months at a one loft
with varying levels of immunity and a cocktail of bacteria/disease

anyone know what the figures are in comparison with other years, have the one loft lost mnore at this stage than last year ...? would be nice to compare the losses and at what stage with 2021 and previous years, both before training and during racing .

Suggest, maybe best not to go down that track etc David be riddled with disappointment I somehow suspect. That being said thou compare apples with apples in a local one loft sense & it's hard to find a glowing endorsement for any race any where with what they finish with at the end compared to what they all started with unfortunately at the start type of thing. Now, any one here with time to waste just look up the Benzing site     as an example, of a typical/fine example on average of the true carnage/story behind these type of races I suggest .
