More nonesense talked about feed George than any other aspect of our sport. If you have a mix with numerous different ingredients no pigeon will eat the same mix every day Each will pick and choose, as long as the feed has the right amounts of nutrients it matters not what form they come in and posh bags can hold rubbish. Used the same mix all year round, results speak louder than words, never sick pigeons and always in prime condition. Regards. |

| Your pigeons are always in good nick Geoge and bet you have few health problems with them.
I did have maize in my mix and the only one I varied at times.
Proof of the pudding.

| mine did the same george, maize all over the boxes and floor, loads being wasted ........this year im on the centenary breeding mix by bamfords, a lovely mix it`s pellets and plenty of small seeds, not too much maize (and not that big horrible maize), plus peas in it . less waste and hopefully nice young birds . we`ll see ......... |

| this centenary breeding mix is what im using for now, seems pretty good but will like to see if any is wasted whilst feeding ybs, and what the ybs turn out like this centenary mix contains bos pellets also like the look of the speedy breeder and the breed and wean mixes |

| ive found feeding pellets makes the ybs bigger and plumper in general george, i suppose thats why farmers feed them for chickens / turkeys etc to build them up quickly ......
either way by feeding pellets or just plenty of food, i much prefer to see a healthy, fat young bird that a thin under fed bird.
each to our own i suppose . |

| im not saying you have to fatten the yb to make it healthy george, just saying that the pellets are rich in a number of important nutrients, which help ybs to grow and be healthy ..........ive seen some horrible thin and weedy ybs fanciers have bred, which have looked like streeters, why they cannot breed a decent yb is beyond me because all they need to do is feed the parents enough food and water at regular times during the day, i choose to feed twice a day but i know of some who feed three times a day, but three times a day wasnt right for me as they tended to not feed the babies as good for some reason .
i think going in the loft to feed willy nilly whenever you can be bothered will not produce good healthy ybs, ive always been of the opinion that if the babies are quiet they are content and well fed, if the babies are always squeaking it tells me they are hungry .
thats just my opinion though . |

| If food is before the all the time they will eat the parts they like the best and leave the rest until fed again.

| i think i was feeding too much to a certain extent, that might explain the amount of waste .....although not all of it. i normally feed in two trays on the floor, and then put food in a pot in the nest bowl....i think this year i will do the feed in the nest box as their main feed, then put less than normal in the trays, hoping they will eat whats in the nest box first then if they need more go to the trays ... |
