| When I selected my pairs, next challenge was when to breed them In Pakistan we have really short period for races. Fog and rain shrink that time too. so mostly we start in January (when temp remain below 10c) and end in March (when temp is over 30c and dry). so extreme weather Mostly I started breeding after races and I found that this time is not good for me to breed, as summer starts and mostly hatched either got pox or don't grow as well as I think them should be. Also with experience and study and I found that offsprings during that time are mostly weak due to mineral loss and weather stress on parents . one who survived has age less than 10 months by the time of race. I wanted to have good off-springs that can give me good results and this can only be done once I have healthy pigeons with good age. because we don't have OB an YB races , all have to compete against each other, regardless of age So I switched my breeding from march to start from Oct till end of March. Now pigeons weaned in December are yearlings and can go as long as 800KM final race. also with cold weather (in Islamabad lowest is around -4c) , pigeons breed well. no pox issue, no mineral deficiency and parents eats well instead of drinking more water and waste energy in panting:cheers: with the calculation of such adjustments , I started having good results and now the guy clocked first pigeon keep and eye and keep asking does Tanveer's pigeon clocked I felt I am in game now So not only by giving good dry loft, plenty of food and supplements but also with connected concerns addressed , we can get good results with our breeding season |

That being said give me hot, hot weather any day for the breeding scenario as such on my patch here, as rare to see a pox issue when breeding. |

| i may be forget to mention that when it turn hot,it is not only heat but plenty of mosquitoes I think this is not pointless exercise, it could improve with time. If one has direction he might think and apply several methods and opt what suits well. Race day is a step far when one start keeping pigeons. if one start well, it ends well on race day and it don't come without plan. - Knackered wrote:

| The best indication of when to breed is look at the wildlife and nature.
They have been around for some time and sorted matters out better than mankind.
Keep as close to nature as possible.
Regards. |

| true Misty. But sometimes it don't suit and we have to adjust as per need. Same one do with darkening system, natural molt is perfect, but it don't work with race schedule in many parts. - MISTY wrote:

Regards. Can understand your problems with the weather etc; for which you have to make adjustments, more of a problem for you than here. If you are keen to win then the best method is to use the methods of those that do unless you can find a better one. I took no notice of anyone and just kept healthy happy pigeons with a total love of home, no henious tricks, no darkness and no widowhood, just a completely open happy loft. Repaid a millionfold. Just do what you think best and good luck. Regards. |
