PostSubject: Sparrowhawk on loft   Sparrowhawk on loft EmptySun Feb 27, 2011 7:30 pm

Hi all i saw a female sparrowhawk sitting on my loft this evening just before it got dark. It has been raining here in aylesbury all day. I know of a few flyers near by who have lost birds to a sparrowhawk recently. I have seen it sitting in trees and trying to get other birds, but never seen it on my loft till this evening. When my birds go out its always in the morning and have no problems. Do you think its just noticed the pigeons are here, as i only moved the birds here in the summer and have kept them in all winter. Do you think it will come back the same time every evening,

Very Happy Chances are if it has seen the birds its there to get them, they do tend to come around at the same times each day think its called herbitual routeen.....If it ever kills a bird on the garden and you get to it before she eats it or takes it away, thats your 1 and only chance to get her, peg the bird down on the spot it was killed and wait with your gun, she will come back and sooner than you think maybe just in minutes then you have a chance to get it. cheers

Thanks for your replys. Sparrowhawks have not been a really big problem down here. But as these evil things are spreading, we will all encounter problems sooner than later. Its really weird we have a pair of peregrines about quarter of a mile away, and dont seem to bother the pigeons as they have been seen hunting on the water birds on the big lakes about 5 miles away.

you are right kev you should be careful what you say on these sites. But alot of fanciers and bird lovers in general have just had enough. The rspb are supposed to protect all birds not just bops.I personly beleive the truth will come out sooner than later about these horrible birds and the damage they are doing to the song birds and our sport. The way i see it nature is nature you cant control it, But when these people rspb are breeding these things and releasing them in towns and cities which is not there natural habitat for example 30 pairs of peregrines just in london is just crazy, this is not nature this is man made and i beleive nature will fight back. This is just my opinion i think we will all be in for a rough few years, but thats just all hope nature comes out on top.
