dose anyone use wood shaving in there nest bowls .... just ive been told from a guy to put a hand full in the bowls and just pop a bag of straw on the floor in corner they will help the selfs to it .... im hopeing thur there all paired

yes phil youve been told correctly as i do the same mind you who am i to say this is right

Straw or tabacco stalks i think some are also useing lavender stalks aswell ( add a nice smell to the loft so im told ) . I put a hand full of shavings in aswell phil.

Question ....... When breeding for another round Do you put a fresh nestpan in with fresh meterials .....

nothing in the nest bowls at all and changed between nest if really dirty,as with my racers nothing in the nest i like to see what pair are the keenest when building a nest with straw,some of my best birds have been the ones with a nest that high in the box they can hardly get on it.i like to watch thecocks or hens building their nest ,up and down up and down shows you whats the keenest

I hadnt thought of that Ray. But dont you lose some eggs that way, as it could become unstable ?

no not really if a bird does,nt make a nest i will put some straw in for them,also i will keep an eye on that pair when racing to see how keen they are or not

Does anyone else do it Rays way?

amanda i do,nt breed off my racers anyway ,so if they smash their eggs i put pot eggs under them anyway

have put a small amount of sand in the bottom of bowl in the past, but recently just to get them started ive put just a bit of straw in the bowl and then they make their own nest......have heard of what ray said before re the keenest birds build a big nest etc
