| right im planning for years to come as i want to race the big long races past 500miles witch im guessing most of mine be over the channel as i fly south
Strains i have atm
Staff van reets - spirit im guessing but i will keep a few of these to try keep in the club races.
Vanloon/silver shadow - im guessing middle distance racing so i might just cross them into my van reets.
now it brings me to my delbars - witch im guessing do upto 500miles ? maybe more ?
what are your thoughts on these strains and witch strains do you think i should look to get in to my loft for the 500+ races ??? |

| hi chris , if i was you i would go for the strains like jan Aardens , vander wegans , and jan teelens , are are major long distance pigeons these are just a few there are many more about .iwould look at a small team man doing well in top compition depending if you want to club race or go in to classic or national racing the choise is yours . |

| 2 years ago a friend ask me were he should go for distance birds this is what i told him and what happened. first he had to go to a loft that was successful so i choose ken hine (charville lofts) ken is one of best at over 500 miles see any of the year books, when we arrived at kens house we were shown his trophies won with the nfc north and south road we were then taken to the lofts i was expecting to be just shown a loft of young birds but instead we were shown all the young birds still in the nests from his 3-4 lofts we could handle all the parents and choose any bird we wanted there were a few nests were we could choose either one bird cock or hen as the one left he would keep so he still had the blood line i think when it comes to the distance birds you have to get them from a racing loft and not were the parents and grandparents have not seen outside the loft this just my opinion |

| i agree with kev on this one the van loon and van reet might do well on the odd 500 mile race but for consistancy at 500 to 700 mile i would go for jan arden or van geel ,van der wegen and jan theelen all these are jan arden based families anyway i also like the older breeds such as grooters and sion and bricoux also the commines but these families are very hard to come by these days the van hee is another and last but certainly not least the delbars which you already have ,the arden families are the ones of today though atb to you chris its nice to see someone with interest in the distance racing |
