Had the young uns out for twenty minutes this morning, I thought I had all the pets indoors, but while they was out, one of me cats was sat on the other shed roof next to the loft meowing at them, it didnt phase them at all, nor did she try to pounce on them at all. Although it did keep them off the shed roof which was a good thing. The ones that was out, trapped like bullets so am happy with the control and it will just just get better now. YB Trapping

Touch wood the neighbour hasn't been seen for a while, i think it must have bolted off, when the ravens chased it. It just stopped raining when I let these out. These young uns are quick learners and are getting the hang of the whistle and rattle of the corn tin. A handful of grain thrown into the loft they are on to it perfectly. I'm happy so far. Will let em out again this evening

I just whistle with me mouth not one of those blow whistles. When I first put them in the loft they were fed in a trough, now they are fed on the floor. As soon as i open the loft door, I rattle the tin and stand outside the door whistling, they come running from the other section for the food. I give a little whistle with every handful and say come on. I will extend the time they are out the more they respond to me in the loft. This is one of my most satisfying times, training them to the command, time spent here will save much time in the future.

yes very true gary, theres nothing worse than stood calling them and they just stand looking at you............... i think this is the reason i lost the nice red cheq last week because i didnt have them hungry enough and they wernt responding to me at the time, it was my own fault. as it happens i cant whistle any more, years ago whe i kept pigeons i could.......but since restarting ive forgot how to whistle.......pmsl

hi darren, ive heard of fanciers using the referee type whistle, but i suppose the silent one should work in the same way.......plus the neighbours wouldnt hear it and think we were nut cases ive heard of one fancier using one of those clicker things used for dog training to call the birds in, and a neighbour of mine taps something which sounds like metal onto a glass bottle type sound (it isnt this most likely, but this is just what it sounds like...lol)

i just say ffs get in or go without seriouse i wistle at um and shake me tin all the time im in the loft ive found its best to use diffo things when calling y/b cus if you use the same call for old and young you are winding one or the other up due to the times you let um out i dont open darkness till 12 so dont whistle at the old birds just call them

This is one area, that I spend lots of time on, it just creates an association with food. They see me they think food, they hear the tin or the command come on or me whistling it becomes ingrained in their mind. Once the are scrambling all over the place for their food. I start using one command every feed, the rattle, the whistle, or the command come on. So when they hear all three commands they go berserk and will start climbing all over me. This is when I'm happy. After that trapping becomes an easy affair with a single grain. I'm already a nut case Darren and yes this confirms it. I talk to them all the time.

I agree 100% mate, once they are steady, i will introduce the noise, kids playing, dogs barking etc. It won't even phase them, they will hear that command over anything and enter the loft, race days they have two things on their mind, loft and food.

not so far gary, i usually start throwing soil at them later in the season when they are older.........my loft is about 70 ft away from the house so its rare they land on the house roof once they are older and flying, altho you do always seem to get the odd one whos lazy and then they start to bring the others down dont they..........

That's the one I keep a close eye on and treat it for respiratory if it doesn't improve then it goes. 70 feet, my god, you need to be a fielder for the England cricket team
