| Do you think it is too late to let YBs out for the first time? They were weaned March 29th. Worried about fly aways. |

| It's a chance we all take mate, have they been in a cage where they can see out? Starve them down so you get some control over them. By this I mean halve their feed ration for a few days. It's not too late, but they will be a little strong on the wing. |

| I built a four foot by eight foot breeder section with a four by eight aviary. Initially I was going to raise some late hatches to fly next year, but then some lads from the club donated 23 birds so I could fly young birds. I have had to keep the youngsters in the aviary until I can finish my flying loft.I am about half way thru with the racing loft but it will take me another two weeks before I finish. I plan to close them in the landing board and make them use the traps before finally letting them out. As you can see, they are not going to be released from the same cage they have been in the last month. But they have been out in the sun. So their compasses should be ok. I am just worried that they may not have enough attachment to the new flying loft and will be too strong and may fly off. I am thinking about letting them out on the landing board in small groups so that one adverturer doesn't take everyone with him. Should I let them out in the a.m. before feeding or don't feed at all and let them out in the evening. Any ideas? |

| if you can let them out from where they are now it will be better for you, they,ll soon settle in their new place when it finished,if you leave it too long you,ll lose some of them.also keep them hungry and let them out lunch time |

| yes, make sure you have control over them before letting them out, if they are not hungry you will have no chance of getting them back in the loft/aviery......cut the food right down for a few days so they are very hungry would be my advise as once they have been out a few times and know where they are you can always brin the food back up.
they should have had a good look around if they have been in an aviery, good luck.......... |
