| I posted earlier that I was having to lock up my yb team while my racing loft was being built. I was concerned about relocating them to a new loft and many of you offered very good ideas on how to handle locating "old" young birds. I am happy to report that out of 28 birds, I only lost 3 on their first time out, and none since. It's been two weeks now and they are routing for an hour in the morning. Now for a new question. I am trying to teach my ybs to trap quickly. In the morning, they hit the landing board and go right in if I don't feed them the evening before. Some fanciers have told me they let their birds out twice a day and feed twice a day. I would like to hear your opinions. thank you, Curt |

| they will go in if your not feeding them my advice would be to split the feed in to two parts i wouldnt advise not feeding y/b at night they need energy try to get a balance maybe 1/2 ounce morning and 3/4 at night give a light feed in the mornings a dupuritive mix or make a 50/50 mix see how they go good look |

| i found as the ybs get older all they want to do is pair up and are not interested in flying at this stage they have done their rangeing and realy need to be trained ....the above info from birdy is spot on but we all do things differently and i only feed once per day and exercise once per day i find this works for me when the birds are on the darkness system and dont change this other than a small treat in the morning of homemade matrix and a bit of canary seed.when the ybs come off the dark to many change the routine ....but as said this works for me and the birds are fine and seem content and they trap in seconds though i do use open door atb m8 |

| at this stage i also feed once a day while on the dark, my ybs are exercised once a day also at this stage........once you have a certain routine sorted out let the ybs out and feed them the full amount once they trap, this will give them 24 hours to digest the food and will mean they will trap the day after.
you also have to get the feed right, and the amount right.......i feed 50%widowhood mix and also a diet mix of 50% which is a high energy mix but digests through them very quickly, as a rough guide i feed 1 oz per bird, but some feed until maybe 3 or 4 birds go to the drinkers, then remove the corn......
once i start training my routine changes........ |
