The Somerset OLR had a Great race last time in 2012 with the Ybs with super returns considering as well that it was the toughest test in a OLR in the UK arguably Europe.

They liberated at 05-15am this morning. There are only around 70 Yearling birds in the 390 mile race so that will not make it easy but the race conditions are great and the wind at the crossing point of the English channel is great according to the actual forecast 5 mins ago the wind is below 10 MPH and visibility is great, they should be crossing around about now.
The birds will make it as hard or as easy as they like Time will tell. (I have pooled our entry right through) you gotta show faith Very Happy. Terry and Jane have done all they can with the birds health and fitness so the birds have the best chance possible of making a good race of it all.
Good Luck Ginger and any other guys who are lucky enough to have birds good enough to have made this Somerset 2013 Yearling OLR Final. I am hoping birds will be clocking around 15-30 hrs or before.

Interesting Kev, Smile:)No big mob there. I always admire the ones that have the brainpower/skill to reach home, when liberated in such a small group etc from a distance race. cheers

Thanks Don, the other 3 birds of ours that had better race form as Ybs in the Somerset race sold at auction and as 009 did not sell we activated him to race solo for us as a yearling and to prove he has what it takes a racer and hopefully be worth a try in the stockloft like the 3 birds that already sold after the 2012 Yb final in the Somerset auction.

I am really pleased that the bird made it and he has proven over the last two seasons in the Somerset loft that he is well above average.

His Sister (the only other sibling) until this years Ybs were bred  has won a few prizes for my OLR partner Ken Cardwell in his club the Blackpool Col and in The West Coast Fed in Blackpool she won a few prizes including a 1st place or two as a Youngbird and she topped the competitive West coast Fed as a yearling around 4 weeks ago from Bedhampton 225 miles. Brilliant news Kev just goes to show the eye sign is playi g a good part in the selection mate

Fingers crossed good things will come of the pigeon or as I would say how many pigeons do you know that did nothing as youngsters but as old birds took some stopping hey
