PostSubject: Nest box grill   Nest box grill EmptyFri Dec 13, 2013 10:07 pm

I am using the plastic type but need to use more than one for each box and have to cut them to size , problem i am having is that they are bending and falling through into the waste drawer and they are doing my head in  Mad would it be ok to use a wire mesh say an inch square , this would be fixed permanent and would be much better imo, if so what thickness do i need so as not to damage the birds feet or would you use something else, what do you lads use.

Cheers andy.

Never a good thing to make anything permanent in a loft Andy !!!!!! for cleaning purposes etc. Long way away from you type of thing here, but I can buy plastic coated steel shelving which can be cut to any size. Maybe worth a look, to see if that is available in your local area.  cheers

Problem you have with wire is its cold to the touch and the birds do not like it,much the same as glueing piece of carpet into nestbowl, try anything to keep them happy/comfortable,we used wire mesh on battens 20 years ago, just fix a piece of 2"bullnose architrave on front edge and they will lie on it all day
