Country in mourning

Yesterday down here we lost a young sportsman, playing the game he loved so much. Philip Hughes at the age of 25 passed away after being hit in the neck by a cricket ball. LIke many a parent
who encouraged there kids to play sport, because of the many benefits which come from these type of activities etc & then to see this really sad situation occur makes an old bloke like myself rather sad I'm along with the rest of the country here I suspect.

yes knackered, a freak accident eh, a chance in a million to be hit on the neck while wearing head protection........bet the bowler doesn't feel too good.

Oh so true David & nobody here puts blame on the shoulders of the bowler etc as we grieve for him also in a differant type of way.

what a shame the man had his whole life ahead of him such a talent ,his family and freinds must be devastated ...may he rip god bless him

Thank's Boosey I suspect etc any parent who has sent their child out to play sport of any discription & read this sad tale would stop & think for a moment, about "What if" being in the wrong place at the wrong time & the cards just happen to fall the wrong way. For what I understand, Phil's mother was at the game also watching, which sadly makes this terrible situation some what worse I suspect for the family.

It was hard to watch his captains speech last night.

Very true !!!. An insight into his other side one could say & many I'm sure would feel his pain & regret at loosing a good mate type of thing.

sorry knackered, but you've lost me there...what has an Israeli umpire and his family got to do with the cricketer being injured and killed in this cricket accident ...? was he the umpire for the game at the time ?

the Israeli umpire was killed in a separate incident david so 2 deaths in a short space of time but of course the umpire wears no protection at all

ah right, thanks for the info Darren...im not a follower of cricket so I didn't know about that.

it seems to be getting a more dangerous sport doesn't it....
